The internet is second nature to children who’ve grown up using it. It’s a great resource filled with educational material and entertainment, but the risk of them visiting less seemly sites make it essential that you keep track of their activities.
All web browsers maintain a list of recently visited websites, called the ‘browser history’, and this is easily viewed for some peace of mind allowing you to see what websites they’ve visited.
You can also look at the temporary files all web browsers save automatically during web browsing, as well as the Windows‘DNS cache’ (a list of sites visited very recently), but this information can be harder to interpret.
Don’t, however, automatically assume that a suspicious website or file means your child has strayed where they shouldn’t. Web sites can be opened accidentally and all kinds of files can be downloaded inadvertently.
How to check your web browser history
Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + H to view browsing history.
Scroll down to view entries, or look for a specific website in Search history box at the top.
Firefox: Press Ctrl + H and the browsing history appears on the left.
Enter a website in the Search history bar. Or click the drop-down arrow next to ‘View’ to search by date, most visited, last visited and more.
Internet Explorer: Press Ctrl + H. Click the drop down box to search by date, site, most visited and visted today.
Microsoft Edge: Press Ctrl + H. Click the dates to expand the web history
How to find favourites on your web browser
Favourites - or bookmarks - may provide some insight into the websites your child visits.
Google Chome: Open a new tab and you will see the bookmarks banner along the top.
Firefox: Click the first icon along the top right which looks like a stack of books and click Bookmarks.
Internet Explorer: Click the star icon along the top right and ensure you have the Favourites tab open.
Microsoft Edge: Click the star icon along the top right and then the second star icon that appears below.
How to check temporary files
Google Chrome: Checking temporary files on Chrome isn't very straight forward but it's not impossible.
Go to This PC by opening the File Explorer along the bottom of your screen. Open your hard drive, usually titled Local Disk (C:) and then the Users folder.
Along the top, you will see the file file path - click it and add 'AppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataDefaultCache' to the enter, then click the enter button. This should then show any temporary files from Google Chrome.
How To Access Sky Broadband Logs In Texas
Firefox: In the address bar, type 'about:cache' and then click List Cache Entries. You will see a list of temporary files there.
Internet Explorer: Click the cog icon at the top right and select Internet options.
Under 'Browsing history', click the Settings button. In the next dialogue box, click View files.
How to check the DNS cache
Both the browser history and temporary files are easy to delete, but the Windows DNS cache needs a little more know how to clear, so it’s also worth examining occasionally – especially if your child knows how to delete their browsing history.
Search for ‘cmd’ from the Start Menu and in the box that appears type ‘ipconfig /displaydns’ (without the quotes) and press Enter.
A list of DNS entries will appear. Maximise the window to make it easier to scroll through the list and you’ll see the addresses of recently visited web sites, along with a few bits of other information you can safely ignore. Just close the window when you’ve finished looking.
The DNS cache is cleared regularly and automatically by Windows, so don’t be surprised if there aren’t many — or any — entries in this list.
How to enable parental controls
It’s important to keep your children safe online and BT has free network-based Parental Controls that can help.
Bt Broadband
Choose from three filter levels: Strict, Moderate and Light. You can also block and allow certain websites and set homework filters that block children from using the internet at certain times.
BT Parental Controls covers all devices that connect to the internet using the BT Hub.
Customers are given the option to set up Parental Controls when they join BT, but you can activate them at any time by logging into My BT.
Fixing Moderate/Closed NAT ForeverFor as an example I will be using an IP Address of 192.168.0.99
These settings are for Sky Broadband Users With Moderate & Closed NAT Type's. The settings that I use personally have not failed to amaze me tbh, I have tested these settings on 3 other Sky routers and the results are always positive okay lets begin.. P.S. The settings will also work on other routers as well as the settings are more or less the same, remember always make a backup of your current configuration before doing this.
Default Username & Password = U: admin P: sky

Mode = I use 54g Performance just to squeeze every last bit of bandwidth out of the router as possible if others are in your household using the internet if not 54g Auto will still work.
Security (Logs)
If your someone that doesn't care about reading logs etc, then disable everything to include in the logs, its one less thing the router doesn't have to do every time you connect to your router or turn it on.
Security (Firewall Rules) You need a static IP Address for this to always work.

Sky Broadband is broadband service offered by Sky UK in the United Kingdom. With the introduction of Sky Fibre, Sky Broadband now refers to ADSL broadband products.
History[edit]
In October 2005, Sky UK agreed to purchase the ISP EasyNet for £211 million.[1] At the time, EasyNet were one of two companies in the UK that had made major investments in Local-loop unbundling (LLU), providing Sky with access to 232 unbundled telephone exchanges.[2] The purchased company was placed under a new Sky division, Sky Broadband. In October 2007, Sky reached the 1 million mark in terms of customer numbers, and claim to be adding one new customer every 40 seconds.[3] By September 2009, it had 2.3 million customers.[4] By July 2012 Sky had reached 4 million customers, and unbundled exchanges covering over 70% of the United Kingdom.[5] By January 2017, Sky said it had 6.1 million customers.[6]
Sky agreed on 1 March 2013 to buy the fixed telephone line and broadband business of Telefónica UK, trading under the O2 and BE brands. The company agreed to pay £180 million initially, followed by a further £20 million after all customers have been transferred to Sky's existing Broadband and telephone business.[7] and customers were transferred during 2014.
Networking[edit]
Sky Broadband provides Sky customers with download speeds of up to 20Mbit/s (ADSL2+ from Sky enabled exchanges, by means of LLU) and up to 76Mbit/s from exchanges enabled for FTTC[8] via an Openreach landline.
In July 2006, Sky also introduced a free broadband and calls package for its digital TV subscribers within the Sky Broadband network area. This means anyone on Sky can get free broadband (subject to a 2GB/month usage limit) and free evening & weekend telephone calls, as long as the line is in a Sky Broadband network area.[9]
For customers whose exchange has not been enabled for the above services, the Connect service is available using the BT WholesaleADSL Max network.
Sky launched Sky Broadband in the Republic of Ireland in February 2013.[10]
Speeds[edit]
As with all DSL connections, the further the distance from the DSLAM (usually located at the telephone exchange) the customer site is, the slower the line speed will be. Sky uses DLM (Dynamic Line Management) over the first 10 days of a new connection to set the line at an acceptable downstream and upstream speed in order for the connection to remain stable.
Lines are initially connected at 4Mbit/s and gradually increased over the 10-day 'training period' until the line shows signs of instability, this allows Sky to know what speeds the line can handle whilst remaining stable.
In April 2012, Sky Fibre was launched almost 2 and half years after British Telecom launched BT Infinity in January 2010.[11]
In April 2014 it was announced they are to roll out 1 gigabit Fibre to the Premises connections in the city of York in partnership with rival TalkTalk.[12]
Sky Wireless Hub[edit]
The Sky Wireless Hub is a wireless router distributed to all Sky Broadband customers when they order their Sky Broadband packages.
During 2006, Netgear were the only manufacturer of Sky Broadband routers, which were made in white. From 2008, Netgear and Sagem were the manufacturers of the Sky Broadband routers, made in black and shaped to match the Sky+ HD box. Both routers are also distributed in smaller boxes (The boxes are now the size of the routers) as part of Sky UK’s low carbon scheme in turn reducing postage costs. The Sagem router unlike the Netgear router has added restrictions to features such as the built in inbound firewall settings and outbound/inbound VPN connections. However a firmware upgrade is available upon request, for users wishing to connect to an outbound VPN connection using Sky Broadband, while maintaining restrictions on the inbound firewall and inbound VPN connection.
Towards the end of 2010, D-Link started producing routers for Sky. The D-Link router is the DSL-2640S.
On Demand[edit]
Sky have created On Demand, which will combine Sky Broadband and Sky+ HD to offer a true on-demand service using the Ethernet socket of the Sky+ HD box and the Sky Broadband router. Sky Customers will be able to connect their Sky router to their Sky+ HD box via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi adapter, and stream content directly to their television. Unlike other VOD services, On Demand video will count towards a users data usage.[13]
Controversy[edit]
On 21 September 2010, the website of ACS:Law was subjected to a DDoS attack as part of Operation Payback. After the site came back online a 350MB file was uploaded containing spreadsheets listing more than 8,000 Sky broadband customers accused of making unauthorized downloads of adult films. This raised issues concerning Sky not following Data Protection Act guidelines.[14]
Broadband Shield[edit]
In March 2014 Samuel L. Jackson and the other stars of Captain America: The Winter Soldier appeared in advertisements for the 'Sky Broadband Shield' web blocking product.[15]
